Escapade 36 (in-person, Los Angeles, CA) is only 6 months away! Put the dates on your calendar NOW: February 20-22, 2026.

ARE YOU AN ARTIST who wants to share their vision with other fen? Are you a crafter who's handy with rhinestones and a glue gun? Do you create fannish or fannish-adjacent works in any medium at all? Then you belong in the Escapade Art Show.

We display your works lovingly, admire them lasciviously, and, if they get three bids or more, auction them off rapaciously. We welcome original art, prints and computer-generated art, 3D pieces, crafts, non-art items of fannish interest, and pretty much anything else that seems appropriate.

Don't wait until the last minute, get out those supplies and tools and whatever it takes to produce your artistic vision and get to work! You know we want to see and display it.

ARE YOU A VIDDER with a great idea that's been languishing on your hard drive or your story-board? Still looking for that last bit of source material to make it just perfect? Or is there one of your older works that you've thought of freshening up to show to the world again?

Greetings Escapaders!

Escapade 35.5 is in TWO DAYS! New this year is Friday evening content starting at 6:00 PST. Are you excited? We’re super excited!

We want to make sure you’re registered. The registration process is in two parts. Part one is logging into the website and adding Escapade 35.5 to your cart (instructions are on the registration page linked below), then making a PayPal payment. Part two is to Register on the Reg list. In other words, the payment portion does not talk to the website Reg list.

To check to see if you’re registered you will have an email that looks like the this screenshot. I found mine by searching in my email for the phrase Escapade 35.5 Registration. If you can’t find that email, not even in your spam folder, and you’re sure you registered email us or post in the Forever Discord’s #help-desk channel.

Also, do NOT use the My Account page. ALL of Online Escapade’s communications will be in the Escapade 35.5 Discord #announcements channel and via the email address you used to register. If you want your registration email address changed, email us and we’ll get it updated for you.

The Escapade 35.5 Discord is not online yet. It will be up tonight or tomorrow morning. You will receive that invitation in your email once we kick all the tires.

We’re looking forward to seeing all your lovely faces/Zoom avatars!

We'll be putting out the call for general tech volunteers as the convention gets closer, so stay tuned.

Are you excited? We are too!

We're excited to announce that Escapade 34 is happening in-person from March 15th-17th, 2024.

Registration is open: https://escapadecon.net/registration/
The early-bird cost is $120. On November 15th the price will go up to $140.

Hotel: Escapade 34 will take place at the Embassy Suites by Hilton LAX North (not South). Hotel info, rates, and reservation link are here: https://escapadecon.net/hotel-travel/

Note 1: When following the registration link, please make sure to change the dates to match your planned stay.

Note 2: The hotel is adding a 'mandatory' charge of $12.92 per day to every reservation. However, Escapade attendees won't be subject to this fee. Please make sure to book your reservation under the CESESC group code and the fee will be waived on-site.

We're looking forward to seeing you!

We found out that some of our posts were not distributing to everyone. We hope that it's fixed now. To celebrate (and test) we are extending panel suggestions through noon (PT) on Saturday 3/19 as a birthday present to Megan.

If you haven't had a chance to submit your ideas, or if your fandom or passion isn't represented yet (there's a tab on the suggestion page showing everything that's been suggested so far), go now to suggest a panel: https://escapadecon.net/panels/suggestions/ Remember, you don't have to moderate your panel. After the panel ballot is closed, we'll post a lot of information including how the hybrid con will function and our COVID protocols for attendees coming to the convention in person. Look for the panel ballot to be posted next week.

We're getting very excited about the convention, and hope you are too.

Finally! We are looking at dates in April, because the Super Bowl is in LA in mid-Feb, and there's a 3-week trailing spike from COVID that we don't want to get caught up in...

This is just the basic info we'll need to decide whether we can swing a hotel contract.

Out with the old, in with the new (platforms)
Escapade is abandoning older platforms like LiveJournal and yahoogroups, and shifting our chatting from slack to Discord.

You may have already noticed that we are now sending Escapade News emails directly to your inbox using MailChimp. Please add info@escapadecon.net to your email contacts, lest our terribly important emails wind up in your spam folder. MailChimp offers better security, as well as links to unsubscribe, or manage your email preferences in every email you receive. If you unsubscribe from Escapade News on MailChimp, please be sure you're following us on at least one other platform to get the latest updates: facebook, twitter, tumblr, dreamwidth, Discord (more info below).

Yahoogroups download deadline 12/15/19. Act now!
We hope that everyone has heard that yahoogroups is changing dramatically. These changes won't work for Escapade going forward. Dail has promised to continue cross-posting announcements to Escapade-News for as long as it keeps running. The Escapade-Chat list will also continue on like a zombie, but expect the more robust chatting to shift to discord.

You may belong to, or know of, older yahoogroups (e.g. fic lists) where the loss of uploaded information/stories/art/whatever would be a loss to fandom. There are fans who are working to download and archive this old information. Please forward any list names you are concerned about to Franzi (fdickson@ix.netcom.com).

WTF is Discord?
Discord is a platform designed for gamers, but we are using it for general Escapade chat, announcements, fannish squee, etc. It is free, and runs on your computer, your phone/tablet, or in a web browser.

The first 50 seconds of this video provide a quick intro to Discord (you can ignore the rest): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYSQB0fUzv0

Here is a basic how-to article: https://www.wikihow.com/Get-Started-with-Discord

Here is the invite to join the Escapade channel on discord: https://discord.gg/Af9sazu
Jump in, there are already fans there, and they'll help you get oriented.
